11th April’23 was a fitting finale and a fairy-tale end forJCC’s 2022/23 cricket season.
Our first XI Cricketers led fm the front by allrounder Ananthan Kajan played their hearts out to earn a memorable first innings win over the much fancied Maris Stella College,
Thimbirigaskatuwa and earned that elusive promotion fm Div 3 to Div 2 of SLSCA.
It was a tense clash of two unbeaten teams fm the North and West.
Our boys proved their mettle to outclass the opponents in the 02-day finals played at a neutral venue in Col 10.
Congratulations,dear Team.You deserve all praise.
JCC fought relentlessly hard during the last 03 to 04 years to win this laurel, but had that slip between the cup and lip.
The path was not easy at all during 2022/23.
Our boys had to break rest and travel long distances at short notices, repeatedly.
Had to adjust themselves with accommodations of different types and meals of commercial value.
But none of the setbacks prevented them from registering an outright win over our traditional rivals SJC in the Battle of the North during early Mar’23.
They changed gear to the 02-day knock-out stage of the SLSCA
Div 3 tournament immediately afterwards.
64 teams were in the fray.
We sailed past one by one in style,
registering convincing outright victories.
Our team is a combination of richly talented batters, bowlers and allrounders who excelled in team-work.
I thank our dedicated team(ie)Coach Shelton,
PoG Regno,MIC Uthayanan and the School bus Driver Prathipan who carried the team in their hearts and shoulders to victory.
Many sincere old boys and dedicated OBAs in and out of SL,have spent time and money passionately during the last few years to guide and prepare our team towards the well-deserved and well-earned promotion.
Large sums of monies were spent collectively on Cricket Material,
Nutrition,Consultant Coach,Motivational Trainer,Endless Travel,
Accommodation and the Medical Needs.
Our success should not stop here.It should spread to all sports played by Central till we reach the pinnacle of
Div 1 to stay on par with all leading schools in SL.
I thank all good Centralites, past and present for making all of us proud and stand tall today.

We wanted to take a moment to extend our heartfelt congratulations on Jaffna Central College Champions of U19 Division 3 Tier ‘A’ Inter-Schools Two-Day Tournament 2022/23 victory and achievement in cricket. It’s a remarkable achievement that reflects the dedication and hard work of the entire team, including Coach Mr Shelton, POG Mr Kingsly, MIC Mr Uthayan , dedication, and teamwork have paid off, and you should all be incredibly proud of what you have accomplished.
As you move on to the next level of cricket, we have no doubt that you will continue to excel and achieve great things. Your success is a testament to your talent, perseverance, and the countless hours of practice and preparation you put into your sport.
For the past three years, OBA-UK has been covering the expenses for a tournament, and this year they went above and beyond by sponsoring five extra matches with well-known schools from the South region in 2022/2023. With the help of Ranjith Anna, additional training was provided to the players, and motivational sessions were organised for the first time with the assistance of our old boy Mr K. Janarthanan. These initiatives led to more wins.
Starting in January 2021, OBA-UK invested Rs 2.7millons to help achieve promotion, and we believe that other sports at JCC could benefit from support around the world.
We would like to extend our gratitude to all the kind individuals who contributed to this noble project in their own ways. We would also like to salute our UK old boys who consistently support OBA-UK’s efforts to enhance sports and educational standards at JCC.
Once again, congratulations on your well-deserved victory, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavours.
Thank you.
